Augusta's 1849 Teaching License

After attending Miss Draper's Ladies Seminary in Hartford, Connecticut, Augusta returned to New York and started a Select School for young girls in Newfield, not far from Ithaca. While teaching school, she lived with her Uncle William and Alice Stratton. This certificate was given to Augusta by Mr. R. H. Estabrook, Superintendent of common schools in Newfield.
