Dear Sister [Augusta] Griffing,

We arrived safely, Eddy and I, but did not find them waiting for us. I left my satchel and we walked home – or rather I walked and Eddy was carried in mama’s arms more than half the way. He did not sleep until night and is not well rested yet. He got so tired waiting in the depot at your place. I thought you would be anxious about [your daighter] Mary. Sister [Sarah] Curtis spent the day with me yesterday. She is going to see you. We are all well. I want to hear from you if it is but a line or two. I have not seen John’s folks. I will go there as soon as weather is better. I do hope and pray that you may be enabled to cast all your care and sorrow on Jesus who says He will wipe away all tears from our eyes and will bear our burdens for us.

I am, as ever, yours affectionately,

Dear friend and sister [Augusta],

I received your card and was glad to hear from you and that you are so well. Could not get to see [your son] John as Edgar has been cutting teeth ever since I can home. We are all well otherwise. Sister [Sarah] Curtis has given up going to see you for the present. If [your son] Willie gets well, you must try to come here this summer. I have some books for Willie to read and will send the first opportunity. Mrs. Adams was here but I was not home. We are making calculations to go to Florida early in the autumn. I hope you can come and see us. The rose bushes, most of them, died, but I will go and see you again some day, the Lord willing.

May our Father in Heaven bless and keep you and make his face to shine upon you is my prayer. Write me a letter when you can get the time and tell the children to write to me. I will go and see John’s folks as soon as I can.

Ever your friend,
Carrie B. Winans

P.S. Give my love to Mrs. [Eliza] Pound and [her] daughter [Belle].
