Poem to Memory of Lydia Griffing Kelly

Death of Sister Lydia Kelly.jpg (101162 bytes)

This is the poem that is mentioned in James Griffing's letter to Augusta Goodrich on May 28, 1852. It is devoted to the memory of his sister Lydia Griffing Kelly, wife of John C. Kelly, at the time of her death in 1846. There are references to her having been preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. The brother was Beriah Griffing, who died in 1837, and the sisters were Artemesia Griffing, who died in infancy, and Mary Ann Dodge Griffing -- wife of Henry Griffing, who died in 1843.
