James Griffing attended college on a scholarship, but he had to pay for his own room and
board. To meet these expenses, he often took employment as a teacher of Select
Schools. The image below is from James' journal in which he notes some of the
families living in or near the town of Tunkhannock, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania
who had children attending his private school and the fees that were collected
for his services.
