Tioga District Schools

While awaiting a scholarship to attend college, James Griffing worked for the Tioga County, New York, School District in the mid-1840's. His job was to conduct inspections of the district schools, note their condition, record the number and type of school books on hand, and report on the teachers. Additionally, he distributed money to the schools. These pages from his pocket journal show some of his notes and ledger entries.
